Kristiansand Suns reiser til Oslo 4 & 5 september for å delta i andre runde i NM. Vi skal spille mot Oslo Pretenders 2 på lørdag og Oslo Pretenders 1 på søndag. Vi kjemper om en plass i sluttspillet.

Kristiansand Baseballklubb vant begge sine kamper i NMs første runde i Kristiansand. Det ble to jevne kamper der Suns til slutt vant 9-8 over Stavanger etter ni innings og  fjorårets tapende NM-finalist ØHIL Royals ble slått 4-3.

The Kristiansand Suns Baseball team moved a step closer to becoming Norges Mester with 2 victories over the weekend in the Norges Mesterskap I baseball. The suns, who played host to round 1 of the 5 team round robin tournament for the first time, defeated Stavanger on Saturday in a 9-8 extra inning affair and squeezed past OHIL Royals on Sunday 4-3 in the last inning.

Versus Stavanger Henrik Hanselman pitched a solid six innings giving up 8 runs while walking only 2 and striking out 4. Charles Vezina lead the offensive attack for Kristiansand collecting 3 hits in 4 chances while driving in 2 runs and scoring twice himself. Tormod Hollerud finished 1 for 4 but drove in 2 key runs including the game winner while Joel Kildefeldt went 2 for 2 with 2 runs and a stolen base.

With the game tied in the 8th inning Stavanger had managed to get runners in scoring position off relief pitcher Andy Johnson but catcher Sean Casey squashed the rally by throwing out a runner on an attempt to steal third. Stavanger managed only 1 runner in the 9th who couldn’t advance beyond first. 

The 9-8 win marked the first time the Suns defeated Stavanger in 4 attempts this season. 
Sunday’s matchup with OHIL was equally exciting as this time veteran right handed pitcher Svein Madsen went the distance in all 7 innings giving up only 3 runs on 7 hits. Madsen walked only 2 Royals batters and needed only 85 pitches to get the win.

Tormod Hollerud finished the day with 2 hits and scored the game winning run on a sacrifice fly out by Sean Casey in the last inning. With the Suns down by 2 runs in the final at bat Charles Vezina lead off with a short single to left field. Hollerud followed with a single as did Henrik Hanselman which resulted in Vezina scoring. Halvard Rimereit then placed a crucial sacrifice bunt to allow Hollerud to move up to 3rd base with only 1 out. OHIL intentionally walked the next batter Andy Johnson to face big lefthanded slugger Sean Casey. Casey deposited a fastball to left field deep enough to drive in Hollerud for the winning run.

The Suns will travel to Oslo for the final 2 rounds of pool play on September 4-5 to confirm a spot in the 3 team final playoff to be played the final weekend. The victories over the weekend leave the suns with 6 wins and 4 losses thus far on the season.

Første runde i NM i baseball spilles i Kristiansand 14-15. august. Fem kamper vil spilles mellom lagene: Stavanger Baseball, Kristiansand Suns, Øvrevoll Hosle IL, Oslo Pretenders 1 og Oslo Pretenders 2. Alle kampene vil spilles på Dønnestad i Tveit, utenfor Kristiansand. Møt opp og se baseball!
